A Day in the life
After some initial research, I have found an artist whose ideas I want to emulate throughout this semester in Advanced Digital Photography. That artists name is Jack Bauer - a world-renowned mountain photographer who actually lives about an hour away from Durango in the high mountain town of Ouray. His photos revolved around the natural beauty of peaks as well as high mountain lakes, sweeping vistas and wildflower meadows. He has done a bunch of shooting around Southwest Colorado, and I was taken aback by the clarity and color that appears throughout his photos. I read a super interesting blog post of his where he talked about the difference of mountain/landscape shooting opposed to other type of photography, and he mentioned how mountain photographers don't have the freedom or "blank canvas" to work with opposed to other, more prop type or portrait type of photography. Unlike pre-set up shots, you have to deal with what mother nature throws at you when shooting mountains. You can't put everything in a box and adjust the intensity/direction of the light. As a mountain photographer, you have to be willing to try and take a shot multiple times while having patience to wait for just the right lighting and weather. This semester I want to use this idea and challenge myself when taking sweeping landscape photos of mountains in and around Durango.
